Bang Saray is no longer peace and quiet.

It's car stereos blasting on the beach road near the condos most evenings and into early mornings. Cops don't care. When your windows on the 24th floor shake from the bass on weeknights, it's beyond disruptive.

That's Jomtien Beach. Not Bang Saray...

Man I have seen that picture before. Could have been taken anywhere but maybe it was taken in Pattaya. Is that it ? Show me some evidence. Real evidence. 500 guys came down from Korat. ? Where is the photographic proof.? Where are photos of service men VN era in Pattaya ? If they were there where's the evidence. ? There should be photos and footage. The guy who runs Pattaya Unlimited says he has seen little evidence of it. Again I swore black and blue that it was true until I learnt otherwise. It's an urban myth. I also have travel guides from that period. No mention of end. I enjoy your work man. Thankyou

I used to believe that Pattaya was an RnR destination during the Vietnam war just like most other people believed. We were wrong. People who were around at the time have informed me that only a few military ever made it there. It is a myth ! They had cameras back in those day's. Where are all the photos of the soldiers on the beach.? There are photos of soldiers in bars during the war but these bars were in Udon and Korat etc. There is no evidence that I have seen that Pattaya was an RnR destination back in the day. Cheers. Prove me wrong if you like

Not saying your info is wrong -- the extent could have been exaggerated. But Walking Street and Pattaya Beach bars like Bamboo Bar were set up to serve US servicemen. It first became a destination for them in 1959 when 500 servicemen who were stationed in Khorat were driven to Pattaya and stayed in several beach houses provided by a wealthy local. It's no coincidence that when the Apollo 11 crew visited troops in Thailand a few months after their moon landing in 1969, they went to Pattaya and took a boat trip to the nearby islands. Here is a classic picture of a sailor jumping off a boat onto what appears to be a lively Pattaya Beach during the war:

Also splitting hairs here but 1959 is pre Vietnam War.
