Ko Gai: The 'separated sea' at dawn
Join me on a boat ride to a breathtaking sandbar in Krabi. (Island Daze #32)
In the silvery light of dawn I hustle to the beach at Railay West and jump in a longtail boat. Within minutes, we’re skipping over gentle swells on our way to Ko Gai to check out a beach that links to two islets when the tide is low. The boatman knows precisely when to experience this marvelous sandbar as it emerges.
Framed by a blue sky, the cliffs of Ko Poda appear to glow bright hazel as they catch some of the day’s first rays of sun here in Thailand’s Andaman Sea. Travelfish has funded my 1,700-baht private boat trip into the Poda island group as part of a wider update of Krabi province, including Ao Nang and Railay, and I don’t take it for granted. Every spray of water over the bow is a thrill.
